The Rio Rancho Governing Body has approved one-story townhouses at Blue Corn Avenue and Fruta Road.
Members unanimously approved land-use zoning changes from retail and low-density single-family housing to mixed use for townhomes for three lots at their virtual meeting Thursday night. The matter had been postponed at the Feb. 25 meeting.
Property owner David Soule, also an employee of Rio Grande Engineering, said he had communicated with residents of Ocotillo Hills, the gated luxury neighborhood across Blue Corn from his property. He believed he’d addressed their concerns and gained their support.
Resident Rachel Wade thanked Mayor Gregg Hull for asking Soule to meet with people in Ocotillo Hills. She said Soule had been great to meet residents on his land and reassure them he was building one-story townhomes.
Unlike at the previous meeting, no residents spoke in opposition to the zone change Thursday.
