Police say three people were found shot to death outside of the Party City near Cottonwood Mall Sunday afternoon.
Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina said investigators believe the shooter was one of the three found dead.
“All indications are that the shooter is on scene and did take their life,” he told reporters at the scene.
Medina said officers were dispatched to a shooting at the parking lot at the Party City in the busy shopping area shortly before 1 p.m.
“Upon arrival they found three individuals who were deceased or who became deceased…,” the chief said. “We do feel that all parties involved are at the scene and that there is no threat to the public.”
Medina said exactly how the shooting played out is not yet clear. He said investigators are still trying to get positive IDs on the victims and identify family.
“It’s a tragedy in our city. We’ve had a tough weekend,” Medina said. “There’s no denying that.”
