Listen To The Weather

Today is overcast with lots of rain and there is more coming tonight. Today has a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms and rain until this evening, when it will die down throughout the night.

“With all this rain, floods are possible in trenches, rivers, and drainage channels,” Albuquerque National Weather Service Meteorologist Randall Herdgert said.

The National Weather Service advises residents that floodwater can carry diseases and infections. It also warns that floods — no matter how small — can cause big problems with homes and vehicles.

Cars can be moved easily by as little as two feet of water. Water can also flow into a car’s exhaust and flood the engine if the water level is high enough.

If a home is not properly sealed water can leak in.

The National Weather Service also asks residents to keep pets and small children inside if water levels are severe enough.

While Rio Rancho is not prone to flooding, other areas like Los Lunas, Ruidoso and some parts of Albuquerque are. Travel safely folks.
