A 15-year-old boy faces multiple charges, including alleged murder, following his arrest in Rio Rancho Tuesday.

About 11 a.m. Tuesday, Rio Rancho Police Department and Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue responded to a call concerning a woman, later identified as 45-year-old Carmen Kester, who was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in the 1200 block of Mirador Loop, according to a RRPD press release.

Kester’s 15-year-old nephew, Brayden Baldree, had fled the scene after stealing her red sport utility vehicle, according to police. The suspect then drove the SUV across the city with police pursuing, which prompted schools in Rio Rancho to implement lockouts as a precaution, RRPD has said.

Officers eventually caught Baldree off Sundt Road near Pearl Drive and arrested him on charges of murder, tampering with evidence, motor vehicle theft, aggravated fleeing from a law enforcement officer and reckless driving.

The suspect is being held at the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center because Sandoval County doesn’t have its own juvenile detention facility.
