An 18-year-old Rio Rancho male could face multiple charges including battery against a household member.
On April 28, the Rio Rancho Police Department responded to a call of a disorderly subject on the 4000 block of Oasis Springs Road.
RRPD learned that Aiden Burke reportedly bear-hugged his mother from behind twice in the upper chest area to prevent her from leaving. The first time was in the living room and the second time was on the driveway. When the victim attempted to get away, Burke put his arms around her neck, according to a criminal complaint.
The suspect also allegedly damaged a bedroom door. His mother and sister were hiding in the bedroom, afraid for their safety because of verbal threats he made when he made multiple holes in the door.
The complaint does not state if the mother was injured, what he used to create the holes or what caused Burke to bear-hug his mother.
Burke is accused of battery against a household member, false imprisonment and criminal damage to property of a household member.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
If convicted, Burke could spend up to 3.5 years in prison and pay a $7,000 fine.
