Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa held a two-day job fair this week to add crew members to its hospitality staff.
The goal is to add 100 new employees before the start of the busy summer season. About 25 people applied at Tuesday’s fair, and several were already in the ballroom early Wednesday waiting to apply.
“We’re a very seasonal hotel, so around this time we start gearing up for our summer season,” Tamaya Director of Human Resources Gene Roche said. “We’re looking to fill lots of positions in food and beverage, server positions, food runners out at the pool, at our Plaza Bar and Grill. We look for folks and then recreation staff out into pools and things like that.”
The resort is hiring for 25 positions, full time, part time, on call and even management positions. Aside from good pay, flexible hours and a fun work environment, Roche said the benefits offered at Tamaya are a big selling point to potential employees.
“Hyatt has the greatest benefits around,” Roche said. “For full time, we have full medical, dental, vision, 401K plan. With the medical plan there’s two options for people to choose from through different providers. I’ve been with Hyatt for 23 years, and its been consistent.”
If that’s not enough to sell a prospective employee, there are also some nice perks that come with working for a Hyatt property.
“Being a corporate Hyatt hotel, we get to do a lot of fun things with our benefits,” Roche said. “And one of our benefits that’s unique to us is if you adopt a rescue dog or cat or, you know, a turtle from one of the local animal shelters, we give you two days off with pay. We have bereavement for the loss of a pet. So a lot of companies don’t offer benefits like that. One of our highest, most-liked benefits is if you’re a full-time employee, you get 12 free stays at Hyatts around the country. So if you want to go to San Francisco for the weekend, and there’s availability, you can stay at the hotel there for three nights free. Up to Denver, Salt Lake, wherever. It’s a great benefit, and you’re part time you get six free stays.”
Roche said there is another hiring event planned for April but applications are accepted online. For more information, text “Application” to 505-405-8673.
