Everyone in Placitas knows it.
July and August, are inevitably the hottest months of the year. Who among us isn’t seeing red?
And so, for the summer exhibition in the Gracie Lee Community Room beginning July 15 and continuing through August 25, the Placitas Community Library art committee challenged artists to further heat up everyone’s senses by submitting work to an exhibition themed “Shades of Red.”
“Consider the taste of a tart cherry,” read the call to participating artists, “or the brilliance of a flaming sunset, the sound of an explosion, the smell of a rose, the tingle of passion and seduction or perhaps the sensation of a slap across the face!”
This volatile prose inspired 37 artists to offer some 75 pieces of art including oils, watercolors, acrylics, photography, embellished quilts, jewelry, mosaics, fused glass and mixed media collages in response.
Artists include Carol Adamec, Lisa Avila, Jill Bartel, Lindsay Brenner, Roberta Delgado, Dinah Dozier, Connie Falk, Doris Fields, Jo Anne Fredrikson, Myra Gadson, Melissa Gallegos, Gene Gray, Colleen Gregoire, Annie Gross, Erika Harding, Richard Hatfield, Linda Heath, Lani Hitchens, Ann Hogan, Mike Kimball, Mark Lavon Maestas, Victor Maestas, Bobbye Middendorf, Jules Nyquist, Ray Ortiz, Eugene Rinchik, Judith Roderick, William Sabatini, Jonn Salovaara, Eliza M. Schmid, Angela Storch, Talos, Betty Temple, Fehrunissa Willett, PK Williams, Janine Wilson, Corrine Vialpando, and Debra Yoshimura.
Exhibit coordinator Linda Hughes promises a warm response from visitors who drop by to see the exhibit during library hours or during the public reception, 5 – 6:30 pm on Friday, July 29.
As always, works are available for purchase with a percentage of the sales price going to support the library.
