Seven Rio Rancho city councilor candidates, including three incumbents, filed their declarations of candidacy paperwork for four seats Tuesday in the city clerk’s office.

Here are the unofficial candidates:

District 1 (four-year term): Incumbent Jim Owen is opposed by Anthony Felimon Torres.

District 2 (two-years of an unexpired term): Incumbent Jeremy Lenentine is running unopposed.

District 4 (four-year term): Ryan Parra is opposed by Paul Wymer; incumbent Marlene Feuer decided not to run for re-election.

District 6 (four-year term): Incumbent David Bency is opposed by Daniel Stoddard.

*The city clerk must notify each individual in writing no later 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, as to whether their declaration of candidacy was qualified or disqualified.

The March 3 election will also have two ballot questions:

  • Shall the City of Rio Rancho issue up to $10.81 million of general obligation bonds, to be repaid from property taxes, for the purpose of designing, constructing, repairing, preserving, rehabilitating, enhancing and otherwise improving roads?
  • Shall the City of Rio Rancho issue up to $3.79 million of general obligation bonds, to be repaid from property taxes, for the purpose of designing, constructing, repairing, preserving, rehabilitating, enhancing and otherwise improving public safety facilities and repairing, replacing or otherwise improving public safety vehicles, apparatus and equipment?

    One city council hopeful is guaranteed a seat on the Governing Body, which meets here in City Hall: District 2’a Jeremy Lenentine is running without opposition on March 3.
