Sandoval County’s Prevention and Intervention Programs and Senior Program partnered to collect warm clothes for the county’s seniors.
“Any assistance that helps to mitigate colder conditions during the winter months is always helpful, and we appreciate the community’s support,” Community Services Director Anne Ryan said.
According to Ryan, seniors are more vulnerable to the cold and many are on fixed incomes.
Graying with Grace, a national program that helps senior citizens in need, says elderly people do not generate their own heat as well.
This clothing drive is a way to combat that for seniors who can’t afford warm clothes.
Sandoval County is accepting these items:
- Coats & jackets (lightly used/new)
- Sweatshirts & ponchos (lightly used/new)
- Beanies (new)
- Mittens & gloves (new)
- Blankets (new)
- Scarves (lightly used or new)
- Warm socks (new)
The warm clothing drive started Nov. 1 and will continue until Dec. 15.
The collection bin is at 711 Camino del Pueblo in Bernalillo. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
