In an effort to combat and deter individuals from driving while under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, the Sandia Police Department will conduct a Sobriety Checkpoint Operation on Sept. 18 within the Pueblo of Sandia reservation.
Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint and conduct a brief screening to identify impaired drivers in an effort to keep the roadways safe and to discourage impaired drivers from driving a motor vehicle.
Impaired drivers that are identified will be arrested and face prosecution, jail time, suspended driver’s license and penalty fees. This operation is part of a comprehensive, collaborative approach to traffic safety and is funded by ENDWI Traffic Safety Grant.
