Rio Rancho Public Schools, in a parent message Wednesday morning, said the rumors about a school shooting threat circulating on social media are not credible.

“We are aware of the rumor, and the Rio Rancho Public Schools Safety and Security staff and the Rio Rancho Police Department have looked into it and determined that it is not a credible threat,” the message reads. “This same message/screenshot has been circulating throughout multiple school districts across the state and country.”

The threat referenced a school shooting at 2:30 p.m. May 10.

“We recognized that incidents of this nature create an increased level of anxiety so our Safety and Security Department will be increasing their presence at our schools today (Wednesday) out of an abundance of caution,” the district said. “We certainly understand concerns and want to reassure students, parents and staff that safety is a top priority. We work very hard to keep our school safe and appreciate all those who reported the rumor to us.”
