Rio Rancho Public Schools will hold another job fair from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday at the RRPS training center.

RRPS has been holding monthly job fairs since July 2021, and district communications director Wyndham Kemsley said the events have been a success so far.

“Based on our experiences with the fairs, we consider them to be very effective, particularly with our harder-to-fill positions,” Kemsley said. “It gives us the opportunity to explain the job requirements and qualifications to individual candidates in person and walk them through the online application, if they need assistance.”

Attendees at Wednesday’s job fair can apply for any open position, but RRPS is actively searching for custodians, bus drivers, bus attendants, education assistants, warehouse technicians and substitute teachers. Anyone applying for these positions will interview at the event.

“Members of our human resources department are also available at the event to help applicants with anything they may need while applying,” Kemsley said. “We also hold on-the-spot interviews for select positions, which usually results in a quicker and more efficient hiring process.”

Kemsley said the events have routinely been drawing around 25 people, most of whom are highly qualified candidates. He was unable to compare the number of candidates who apply to the number of applicants who get hired but said the job fairs create better hiring opportunities than just posting a job opening online.
“Another area where the job fairs have been very successful is in allowing HR representatives to individually meet with people who are considering becoming teachers through the New Mexico Public Education Department’s Alternative Teaching License,” Kemsley said. “These folks generally are interested in teaching as a second career, having received a degree in a field outside of education. The job fairs provide a wonderful opportunity for us to discuss the Alternative Teaching License with interested individuals in a more personal setting.
“I can say that we have found a significant number of highly qualified employees via our job fairs. We encourage anyone who is interested in working for one of the best school districts in the state to review the open positions on our website and attend our job fairs to find where they fit best to further their professional careers.”
