Rio Rancho Public Schools held its fourth Content Connection Committee Lunch & Learn meeting of the 2022-23 school year Wednesday.
The RRPS Content Connections Lunch & Learn is a time dedicated for discussions about new the social studies standards and curriculum for grades 6-12.

Erica Lozano

Erica Lozano, Secondary Coordinator for Social Studies and English Language Arts for RRPS, led the virtual meeting, which focused on the Instructional Materials Adoption Process in Rio Rancho Public Schools. The district is setting new social studies standards at each grade level and is expecting new outcomes of staff and students. Wednesday’s meeting was designed to take a deeper dive into how instructional materials are decided on and implemented in RRPS. Each year, the district selects a committee of teachers to review, evaluate and recommend instructional materials for the content area of focus. Each content area is up for review every six years. Right now, RRPS is in the social studies adoption cycle.

RRPS is asking for feedback from the community on what was discussed in the meeting.
The next Lunch & Learn session will take place at noon on March 8 on Zoom and will explore the next steps for implementing new standards and new instructional materials for the 2023-24 school year.
RRPS will be holding a Social Studies Open House for high school parents and students at the RRPS Training Center from 1:30-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Feb. 15. Print and digital resources that the Instructional Materials Adoption Committee is considering implementing will be on display. An open house for middle school students and parents will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Feb. 22 at the RRPS Training Center.
