The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at Rio Rancho High School had a couple of big accomplishments recently.

During spring break, the JROTC marathon team won the Bataan Death March Memorial Marathon. The team ran the entire 26.2 miles with a time of 5:31:49, climbing over 1,800 feet, and crossed the finish line together.

Last weekend, the team took first place at the NMAA State Championships in Albuquerque.
Cadet Sgt. Joseph Bowman is the state champion in Marksmanship (Sporter), and Cadet Lance Corporal Avery Fluck placed second, Cadet Sgt. Violet Francisco placed third in the female 400 meter, Cadet Fabian Perez placed second in the sprint/drag/carry, and Cadet Capt. Jasmyn Baca placed third in the power throw.
The female color guard was also crowned top color guard in the state with a perfect score from all three judges.
