A 39-year-old woman gave no plea at her initial appearance on Wednesday after she was accused of attacking her boyfriend with a knife.
At about 1 a.m. Tuesday, Rio Rancho police officers were dispatched to a domestic violence call at an apartment in the 1000 block of Meadowlark Court.
Jania Anderson of Rio Rancho told officers she and her boyfriend got into an argument over whether he allegedly cheated on her in Anderson’s apartment while she was away.
She added that when she refused to have sex with him that morning, he became enraged and started arguing with her. He began throwing things around and ripping pictures off her wall. He also damaged her ottoman, which caused glass structures on her table to break, according to a criminal complaint.
He then took the palm of his hand and hit her in the forehead causing her to hit a hallway wall.
The man told officers that after Anderson became upset over possible infidelity issues she “lost it” and came at him with two knives. He tried to get out of bed and leave the apartment when she ripped his shirt off then stabbed him in the back with a knife, the complaint states.
He then reportedly grabbed her arms and slammed them on her dresser drawers in an attempt to get her to drop the knives.
The man received a small laceration on the lower left side of his back.
Anderson suffered a bump to her forehead, which was “consistent” with the man grabbing her arms, according to the complaint.
She is being accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (household member), a third-degree felony.
If convicted, Anderson could face up to 3 years in prison and pay a $5,000 fine.
