The search for a new Rio Rancho city manager has resumed.
Deputy City Manager Peter Wells has served as the acting city manager since previous City Manager David Campbell resigned last March after nine months in the position. Because of the pandemic, the city put the search for a new manager on hold until this year, spokeswoman Annemarie Garcia said last year.
According to the City of Rio Rancho website, the city is again taking applications, with the first review of them scheduled after Feb. 15. The position is to remain open until filled.
As per the city charter, the city councilors must provide a ranked list of three to five candidates to the mayor, who must then appoint one. A majority of the governing body must approve the appointed candidate, or the mayor has to choose another one from the list.
If the councilors can’t rank at least three candidates or if they and the mayor can’t agree on one, the process restarts.
