Two Metro PCS stores in Rio Rancho were robbed at gunpoint within 40 minutes Tuesday evening.

Rio Rancho Police Lt. Ray Alderete said the first robbery took place about 4:17 p.m. at the Metro PCS at 1360 NM 528 and the second happened about 4:55 p.m. at the Metro PCS at 2003 Southern Blvd.

“The robbery suspect brandished a handgun to store employees and collectively made off with computer tablets, cash and an employee’s wallet,” Alderete wrote in an email.

He didn’t have the number of tablets or amount of cash taken. Alderete said officers found and pursued a suspect vehicle, but weren’t able to apprehend the suspect.

“The investigation is in its infancy and active at this time, so details are minimal at this time in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation,” he wrote.
