(The area’s) growing insanely fast, and we wanted to be part of that growth, too — Rise+Roast general manager Ian Lowe

Rise+Roast general manager Ian Lowe seized the chance to expand his establishment into the City of Vision, an area that’s “growing like crazy.”

That’s why he zeroed in on Rio Rancho for a second location for his coffee and doughnut shop, which he’s aiming to open by mid-to-late May.

The new shop will be in the Petroglyph Medical Plaza on the southwest side of town, at 2011 Unser Boulevard. That shopping center’s just north of Rust Medical Center.

“We knew we had a lot of rooftops here, lots of homes. There’s lots of folks who would benefit from having New Mexico-born doughnuts… we wanted to expand to an area that was in need of something local,” Lowe said. “We wanted to reach out to Rio Rancho specifically, because there’s a lot of families out here, and we’re a family business, man.”

Rise+Roast, which opened its first store at 401 Eubank Boulevard in southeast Albuquerque in April 2019, prides itself for freshly-brewed coffee and freshly-made doughnuts daily.

Lowe said he fielded plenty of walk-in visits, Instagram messages and Facebook messages from residents in Rio Rancho and Albuquerque’s West Side wanting a local coffee and doughnut store, as opposed to just settling for national chains like Dunkin’.

“The opportunity that we had on the property here was just the right timing,” he said. “(The area’s) growing insanely fast, and we wanted to be part of that growth, too.”

The 1,100-square-foot building will feature curbside spots and a dual-lane drive-thru, to ensure Rise+Roast can get coffee and doughnuts out to customers quickly.
