A Rio Rancho woman who left the scene after fatally hitting a cyclist last summer was sentenced to nine years in prison Thursday.

Mollie Duran was charged with great bodily harm by vehicle (DWI) and leaving the scene of an accident (great bodily harm or death) after she hit two cyclists on July 9, 2022.

According to a criminal compliant, Duran was driving an SUV when she struck the bicyclists. One cyclist, Joseph Gamez was taken to the hospital and later died. The other was not seriously injured. Later, a Rio Rancho Police Officer noticed the SUV with significant damage to the windshield. Duran was arrested near Southern and Unser.
