Rio Rancho High School went into a lockout Thursday morning after reports of a suspicious vehicle inside the parking lot and possible weapons.

The Rio Rancho Police Department responded to a call of a male student who allegedly pointed a gun at other people in the school’s parking lot. Officers later learned that the firearm in question was a toy gun, RRPD Lt. Jacquelynn Reedy said.

No damage or injuries were reported.

The school implemented a lockout earlier in the day, which has since been lifted.

“The safety of our students and staff is a top priority,” a school statement reads.

Officers will do a follow-up with the school and with parents.
