Longtime Rio Rancho High School girls soccer coach Uwe Balzis has officially resigned that position, but will remain the head coach for girls’ tennis. Last season, Balzis took advantage of the 90-day retirement option and he sat out the 2022 soccer season. He has since returned to RRHS as a part-time German teacher, and has decided that the commitment to both head coaching positions was too much for him at this time. The Rams girls’ soccer team won 321 games under his leadership (1997-2021), including the Independent division title in 1997, and the 5A state title in 2007. The Rams were the state 6A runners-up in 2014. The coaching vacancy is on the district’s website.
