Rio Rancho is in the top five for total sales of cannabis.

The city racked up $1.64 million in total sales with medical weighing in at $924,781 and adult use reaching $716,053, according to the Cannabis Control Division of the Regulation and Licensing Department.

Recreational cannabis became legal June 29 in New Mexico.

“The state’s population centers of Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces and Rio Rancho saw the highest sales number, with Hobbs also posting high sales numbers rounding out the top five cities by total sales,” according to a news release from Cannabis Control Division. The state tracks sales monthly.

“As adult-use sales remain steady, this new industry is bringing new economic opportunities for entrepreneurs and communities across New Mexico” said Acting Director Carolina Barrera.

Total combined sales statewide weighed in at nearly $38 million. Of that, medical sales were at $16.5 million and recreational pot hit $21.2 million.
