Rio Grande Credit Union is chipping in to help people impacted by the wildfires raging across New Mexico.

RGCU is donating $15,000 to the Emergency Action Fund for New Mexico Fire Relief, which was established to assist those forced out of their homes by the wildfires.

“Our hearts are broken for our friends and neighbors as we witness the magnitude of this natural tragedy unfold. In typical New Mexican and credit union fashion, we feel anxious to provide critical support to the affected communities. We understand the importance of supporting our community – whether these individuals are our members or not. We are here to help,” Mike Athens, president and CEO of Rio Grande Credit Union, said in a press release.

The credit union also raised more than $2,400 for fire relief efforts Saturday as part of its grand opening celebration for its new northeast Albuquerque location at 4700 Montgomery Blvd. NE. Those funds will be used to help provide meals, clothing and other items to people who have short- and long-term recovery needs.

Rio Grande Credit Union has a Rio Rancho location at 1526 Unser Blvd., plus six Albuquerque locations.
