A residential fire broke out Friday afternoon in Corrales Heights about a block from Rio Rancho Elementary.

Thick black smoke from the fire on San Juan de Rio Drive could be seen throughout the city before the fire was extinguished around 4 p.m.

Several fire and rescue trucks and Rio Rancho Police Department vehicles were on the scene as San Juan de Rio was shut down from Leon Grande to San Jose.

An officer with RRPD said there were no injuries reported so far from the fire and the owner’s dog was also safe from harm.
