Barbara Romo
In the race to become the new 13th Judicial District attorney, Democrat and Chief Deputy District Attorney Barbara Romo won her primary election, according to unofficial results.
She’ll run against Republican Joshua Joe Jimenez, a former deputy district attorney, in November.
Romo beat her opponent, Assistant District Attorney Mandana Shoushtari, with 70.4 percent of the Democratic vote, compared to Shoushtari’s 29.6 percent. Both live in Rio Rancho.
Jimenez is the only Republican running for the position. He lives in Valencia County.

Joshua Joe Jimenez
The 13th Judicial District covers Sandoval, Valencia and Cibola counties.
Shoushtari and Romo work under current DA Lemuel Martinez, who is retiring. Jimenez has served as a prosecutor in the 13th Judicial District, as well as in Bernalillo County, but is now the managing partner in his own law firm.
Results are unofficial until canvassed.
