Rio Rancho Police have confirmed the identity of the 15-year-old boy killed on the former golf course March 10.
Officers found Alexander Jackson with multiple gunshot wounds after responding to a call of shots fired about 7 p.m. in the area most recently called Club Rio Rancho, according to a news release from the City of Rio Rancho.
“Officers attempted lifesaving efforts; however, the victim succumbed to his wounds,” according to the release.
Detectives began investigating the event as a homicide.
After Jackson’s family spoke to reporters over the following weekend, RRPD and the City of Rio Rancho confirmed his identity Tuesday. According to the release, notifying family members took time because they don’t live in the Albuquerque Metropolitan Area.
“This is a tragic event for the victim, the family of the victim and the people in our community,” the release said. “This incident impacts our entire city. We are working to provide accurate information and to conduct a thorough investigation, which can take time, so we ask for the public’s patience and cooperation as we do so.
“It is the priority of the Rio Rancho Police Department to continue to provide for the safety of our community.”
