A man peacefully surrendered to the Rio Rancho Police Department Sunday morning in a homicide case, shutting down the parking lot area of Premiere Movie Theater.

The events unfolded shortly after 4 a.m. The Sandoval County Regional Communication Center received a call requesting assistance at a Rio Rancho residence. The caller said a male came to the home, making statements that he shot someone. Before officers could get there, he left in a white sedan.

“Officers were able to establish phone contact with the suspect, who advised he was driving around the metro area,” a release from RRPD states. “The male agreed to drive back to Rio Rancho and parked in the Premiere 14 movie theater parking lot where he peacefully surrendered to law enforcement.”

A dead woman with a visible gunshot wound was also in the vehicle. No names have been released as of early Sunday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing, but police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
