PNM announced it is extending the deadline for the PNM COVID Customer Relief Fund, a financial relief program that helps families, small businesses, and nonprofits struggling to pay their electric bill.

The PNM COVID Customer Relief Fund helps eligible customers pay down, or even pay off, their past-due PNM bill. The funding, originally starting in 2020 after the pandemic hit, has just been extended to March 31 due to the number of customers still experiencing financial hardship from the pandemic.

“We chose to extend the deadline of this assistance program because pandemic hardship is not over just because 2021 is over,” said Pat Vincent-Collawn, PNM Resources chairman, president and CEO.

There are nearly 40,000 customers in New Mexico behind on their PNM bill with a total of approximately $13.2 million dollars past-due. Each customer owes an average of about $322.

Between the PNM COVID Customer Relief Fund, the PNM Good Neighbor Fund, the State of New Mexico Emergency Rental Assistance Program and other financial assistance programs with other agencies, more than 15,000 customers have received assistance towards their past-due PNM bill, totaling more than $7.9 million dollars of financial assistance given directly to customers in need.

How to receive help from the PNM COVID Customer Relief Fund:

  • Gather verification of household income;
  • Copies of identification for all household members;
  • A copy of your past-due PNM bill; and
  • Apply by calling PNM at 855-364-2950 Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Once the application is approved and processed, the adjusted balance will be reflected on your next PNM bill. For a complete list of eligibility requirements and to apply, visit
