Placitas Community Library hosted a grand opening and ribbon-cutting of its new Kellum-Rose & Deuel Wing on Sept. 25.
The event brought community members from Placitas, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Truchas. The wing is named after major donors Nancy P. Kellum-Rose and Scott W. Deuel.
Sandoval County Commissioner Katherine Bruch also allocated $5,000 for the wing.
Major donors had the opportunity to name rooms in the new wing. The four rooms are Gracie Lee Community Room, Ross’s Reading Room, Vulcan Cafe and Pearl Children’s Room.
The Collin Meeting room is being reinvigorated as an educational space for Placitas history. In November and December, the room will feature the San Antonio de Las Huertas Land Grant.
Programs will focus on the history of land grants, growing up in land grant families and current activities of the land grant.
