The Placitas Community Library announced details for its summer reading program Wednesday.

“All Together Now” will feature in-person programs at 1 p.m. June 10, June 15 and June 24. All programs are free and open to the public from all communities.

The theme, “All Together Now,” emphasizes working, playing and living together with friendship and kindness. It will also include seven programs for children in June and July.

During June, the program will focus on science that makes the earth better and the community connections that help to do that.

The June 10 program, “Harnessing the Wind,” will be presented by PCL patrons, Stephanie and Walt Witowski. Children will hear the story “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. Then they will use the scientific method to build their own windmill.

On June 15,  “Protecting Animal Habitats” will be presented by the ABQ Biopark educators.  The BioPark will be at the library with interactive activities and — possibly — live animals.

On June 24, Explora will be at the library with hands-on STEM activities for the entire family.

Each week, each child will receive a new book for attending these programs, plus there will be additional opportunities to receive prizes including participating in the library’s reading and kind deed challenge.
