Everyone in Rio Rancho has seen the cranes at Intel that now dominate the city’s skyline.

There are six cranes on the site as part of a a $3.5 billion initiative by the company to expand its plant and produce new types of semiconductor technology. But one crane looms larger than the others.

The Big Honkin’ Crane, as Gregory Skannal has called it, is 450 feet tall and can be seen throughout the city.

Skannal runs Junk Out Hauling, a local upstart business in Rio Rancho that aims to keep the mesa junk free and also does demolition. While he’s been out driving, he noticed The Big Honkin’ Crane can be seen not only in Rio Rancho but many other places in the metro area.

Skannal shared several photos of The Big Honkin’ Crane with the Rio Rancho Observer.
