A 34-year-old Pena Blanca man was arrested after reportedly carrying a backpack without any pants on.

At about 9:20 p.m. June 5, Sandoval County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a call of a welfare check on a man in the town of Pena Blanca.

There were several reports of Vincent Lovato walking around the area naked, carrying a black backpack.

Eventually, the deputies found the suspect near Lewis Lane on the west side of an irrigation ditch wearing white boxer shorts and white running shoes while carrying the backpack, according to a criminal complaint.

The deputy learned that Lovato had violated probation and arrested him.

After the suspect was placed inside the patrol car, Lovato removed the seat belt multiple times, tried to bite another deputy in the face and left arm, and kicked another deputy in the stomach, the complaint states.

He was eventually taken to the Sandoval County Detention Center without any more trouble.

Lovato is accused of battery upon a peace officer; assault upon a peace officer; resisting, evading or obstructing an officer; and indecent exposure.

He made no plea at his June 6 initial appearance.

If convicted, Lovato could face up to 3 years in prison and pay a $6,500 fine.
