Diego Romero

Diego C. Romero was born on Oct. 5, 1975, to Marvin and Georgiana Romero in Las Vegas, N.M.
Diego departed us unexpectedly on June 15, 2021, and will be forever loved and missed. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ramon and Albina Abeyta and Jean Romero; his uncle Sammy Abeyta and uncles Clarence and Charles Romero; aunts Sylvia Valdez, Alice Lujan and Maggie Benavidez; brother-in-law Tommy Johnson; sister Armella Edwards; niece Amanda Johnson; and his dog of 14 years, Lou Dog.
He is survived by his parents, Marvin and Georgiana Romero of Placitas; sister Yvette Johnson of Albuquerque; sister Lynda Dominguez of Placitas; brother Marvin Jr. of Rio Rancho; Staff Sgt. Raymond Johnson of the U.S. Air Force; great-niece Destiny and great-nephew Mason Johnson of Arizona; aunt Marcella and uncle Joe Coca of Las Vegas; aunt Helen Bustos of Albuquerque; uncle Gilbert Romero of Albuquerque; several other loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Diego’s love for football propelled him to be a great linebacker for Del Norte High School and New Mexico Highlands University. It was the same love that he pursued coaching, where he positively motivated and mentored numerous players to be outstanding young adults.
Diego was known as being funny, caring and charismatic. He had a thick wall around his emotions, but once that barrier was broken, he was amazing to be around.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Acquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho on July 4, 2021. Reception to follow on July 5, 2021, 5-7 p.m. at The Dirty Bourbon at Eubank and Montgomery in Albuquerque.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas, N.M.
