Eagle Ridge Middle School responded to a report of a possible school shooting threat Wednesday afternoon.

Local law enforcement were notified about the threat that was written on a restroom urinal inside the school. Rio Rancho Public Schools Safety and Security personnel immediately investigated the threat.

“We do not have any evidence that the threat is credible,” Eagle Ridge Middle School principal Catherine Rodriguez said in a statement. “We recognize that incidents of this nature create an increased level of anxiety so additional safety and security staff have been placed at the school out of an abundance of caution. We certainly understand concerns and want to reassure students, parents and staff that safety is a top priority. We work very hard to keep our school safe and appreciate the students who reported the threat immediately.”

Rodriguez added that the school would take “immediate action” against any student who made any kind of threats.

“Threats of this nature create an environment where students and staff feel unsafe,” she said. “They disrupt the school day and result in countless hours of work to determine their validity and secure the safety of students and staff.”
