No one was hurt after a car caught fire in front of US Bank off NM 528 near 19th Street on Wednesday morning.

An unidentified woman pulled over after she smelled smoke in her vehicle. When she parked and her and another person got out, it caught fire, Rio Rancho Police Department Lt. Jacquelynn Reedy said.

Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue came and put out the fire.

The fire started in the engine compartment but did not spread from there, Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Ryan Floersheim said.

The incident caused 528 southbound traffic to go from three lanes to one lane.
