The New Mexico State Land Office is hosting a public meeting to collect public comments regarding a proposed sale of approximately 44 acres of state land in the Paseo Gateway master plan area of Rio Rancho to be developed for residential housing.

The city adopted the Paseo Gateway Master Plan in 2014. It encompasses 124 acres off of Paseo del Volcan and Terrene Road (around Cleveland High School) that are planned for residential, commercial and employment areas.

“With residential, commercial and employment areas clustered together, walkability is enhanced. With enhanced walkability, safety improves and traffic congestion lessens. Specific design standards for commercial uses will be determined through site plans. All commercial uses should further the conservation and natural environment element of the Comprehensive Plan and where feasible include a program for recycling,” the plan states.

The public meeting will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Governing Body’s overflow room.
