It’s annoying, but I know it will be worth it when it is done — Cori Luzietti, owner of Screen Kings

NM 528 is still under construction and residents wonder if it will ever end.

The cost of the project, which started in August of 2021, is $26 million and it is expected to be completed by Dec. 30, 2022.

While locals are annoyed with the ongoing project, some residents believe drivers should be patient. It will be over soon.

“It’s annoying, but I know it will be worth it when it is done. I mean it is hard to sort of loop around, but it hasn’t been that bad,” said Cori Luzietti, owner of Screen Kings near NM 528.

The contractor, Albuquerque Asphalt, has crews working on drop inlets, curb and gutter. Concrete wall barrier extension and utilities are ongoing.

And the New Mexico Department of Transportation has various lane and shoulder restrictions daily.

Meantime, motorists and workers have experienced delays and accidents.

One worker took to social media and advised drivers to pay attention in the construction zone.

“Watch out for us and any construction company for that matter. The orange cones and barrels are up for a reason,” the worker said.
