Rio Rancho High School began the 2023-24 school year Thursday not knowing who the principal would be. On the second day of school, there was an answer.

Rio Rancho Public Schools named Millan Baca to the post Friday afternoon. In his 22-year career and 19 years with RRPS, Baca has taught middle and high school social studies and English; worked as an assistant principal at Rio Rancho Middle School, Cleveland High School and RRHS; and has most recently served as vice principal at RRHS.

The announcement came after former principal Ryan Kettler was named the superintendent of Los Lunas School District last week.

“We are delighted to extend our warmest congratulations to Millan Baca on his appointment as principal of Rio Rancho High School. His track record as the vice principal has showcased his strong understanding of our students, district and community,” stated Dr. V. Sue Cleveland, superintendent of Rio Rancho Public Schools. “Millan’s commitment to excellence is unwavering, making him an exceptional choice to uphold Rio Rancho High School’s legacy.”

Baca has a Bachelor of Arts in education and an M.A. in educational leadership from the University of New Mexico. His tenure as principal will officially begin Aug. 14 following Kettler’s transition to Los Lunas.

“I eagerly anticipate the continuation of Rio Rancho High School’s tradition of excellence, and I am truly grateful for the privilege of collaborating with remarkable administrative teams and acquiring invaluable insights from these experiences,” Baca said.
