Another prestigious award may be coming to RRPS: Two Rio Rancho Middle School teachers have been nominated for a coveted Golden Apple Award.
Math/Pre-Algebra/AP Algebra teacher Cynthia Rodriguez and Gifted teacher Michelle Van Sant are finalists for the Golden Apple Awards given out each year by the Golden Apple Foundation of New Mexico.
Each year, the foundation selects seven teachers to honor for their excellence in the classroom, professional commitment and desire to elevate education in our state. Each finalist must complete a comprehensive process that includes a nomination and application, full-day evaluation visit and interviews with representatives from the school community.
Winners receive a professional development stipend, an interview on an Albuquerque television station — and the prestigious Golden Apple trophy.
