Today, June 6, is my one year anniversary of working at the Rio Rancho Observer.
I started as an intern from UNM just one semester away from Graduation. About two weeks into my internship I was offered a full time position as a staff writer.
My first days at the office were as you’d expect. I started by writing small articles about upcoming events and the weather. Little did I know I would transition to writing crime later down the road.
Since my start at the RRO, I have already gone through one boss and several coworkers. In spite of all that I’ve been able to cover news.
Since my start, I have covered business, the city and crime. Now, mostly crime and city.
I guess I just want to thank Rio Rancho for giving me news to cover. Even if some of it was violent crime and political movements that caused people to get mad.
My job is safe because the residents of Rio Rancho keep living their lives and doing things worthy of the news.
Unfortunately, local news isn’t as safe everywhere.
As an anniversary request, I ask that the people who read our paper keep reading the news and living life.
It gives my life purpose to inform you about the city.
