Some drivers in Albuquerque, Bernalillo and Rio Rancho may have noticed some slowly moving traffic Friday afternoon.

There was a big reason for the slow down: an approximately 112,000-pound shipment of electric gear being carted from Albuquerque to southwest Rio Rancho.

PNM said an oversized truck carried a massive transformer and several boxes of electrical materials from the Reeves Generating Station in north Albuquerque to Rio Rancho. The shipment left the station at 11 a.m. Friday and arrived at its destination around 3 p.m. The truck traveled east on Paseo del Norte to I-25, then north to Highway 550 in Bernalillo. At the 550 junction with Highway 528, the truck went south toward its delivery location in Rio Rancho.

PNM said, “All parties involved worked to obtain the appropriate permits for this transportation,” and that the 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. drive time was ultimately decided by the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
