One man was book on two charges of Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer, Aggravated Fleeing Law Enforcement, Attempt to commit a felony (receiving/transferring a stolen motor vehicle), resisting evading, and other minor charges in the shooting Saturday at the Walmart store at 901 Unser Blvd. according to Lt. Jacquelynn Reedy, spokesperson for the Rio Rancho Police Department.
At about 6:25 a.m. Saturday, Cheyne Estrada reportedly pulled a gun from his car after RRPD officers approached him on a call of suspicious vehicle and fired at the officers.
The officers initially retreated, and then returned fire. When they fired back, Estrada jumped in his car and fled towards Albuquerque.
The female suspect who was in the car, Syra Ramon, was booked for conspiracy to commit receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle.
A third female was taken into custody, but does not face charges in the incident.
