Elbert Turner, 45, of Rio Rancho, was arrested for killing two people and tampering with evidence June 30 at a residence located on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 40th Street on the outskirts of Rio Rancho Estates.
According to a police report filed by Sandoval County Sheriff, deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the residence. A neighbor said a man had possibly shot two people living in a shed on his property.
They believed that Turner and the two living in the shed were arguing and heard banging on the door.
When officers arrived, they took the neighbor back to the residence where the shooting occurred. The neighbor told deputies that Turner lived in a white trailer and drove a green Ford about a quarter mile west from his residence.
When deputies found the trailer, they called for Turner to step out of the trailer and was immediately put in handcuffs.
Traces of blood were found inside and outside the Ford. Deputies followed the tracks left by the Ford and found two bodies. Both were dead from gunshot wounds. The man was identified as Jordan Green and the woman was identified as Marilyn Benham.
Turner was charged with two counts of murder in the first degree and two counts of tampering with evidence.
If convicted, Turner could face life in prison.
