Rio Rancho police on May 19 arrested a man for allegedly committing fraud at State Employees Credit Union in Enchanted Hills.

The man, Jonathan Thompson, of Lititz, Pa., tried to cash a fraudulent check or checks for a total of $2,500, using an altered or forged driver’s license, according to the criminal complaint filed by the Rio Rancho Police Department.

According to the complaint, police received a call from a credit union employee at 4:25 p.m. that alleged Thompson was “attempting to cash a fraudulent check. The employee also advised (that) the male had gone into the store earlier in the day and did the same thing.”

When police arrived, Thompson was placed in investigative detention.

The investigation revealed that he had an altered driver’s license that he was using “in an attempt to cash the fraudulent checks.”

“He was placed under arrest for two counts of fraud and altering or forging a license and booked without incident,” the complaint said.
