We are all familiar with the phrase “New year, new me.”

This phrase is usually followed up with a New Year’s resolution. This may be cliché, but it’s a time-honored tradition.

Here at the Observer, we wish all our readers good luck on their resolutions.

For those who stick to their New Year’s resolutions, great, you’re winning at life. For those who don’t, we have a few tricks.

Create obtainable New Year’s resolutions. Not every resolution has to be extreme.

The most common resolution is to lose weight. Set a goal to lose three pounds a month or even just to eat a few more servings of healthy foods.

Keep goals within reach.

Another common resolution is to cut out toxic people.

Instead, focus on your own growth. Instead of cutting anything out, add something to your life that makes you happy, whether it be volunteering, crafting or even going to the movies. Enjoy a new addition to your life once a month.

For those who wish to quit a bad habit, be it smoking or eating out, begin by limiting yourself and slowly phase the habit out of your life. Take baby steps and give yourself plenty of praise at each step taken.

New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be extremely challenging, only challenging enough. The Observer wishes all good luck in their resolutions.
