Work to convert the old Mattress Firm at the Plaza @ Enchanted Hills into a city library and community center could begin later this year.
It will be something to give the residents of Rio Rancho, especially those in Enchanted Hills, City Councilor Bob Tyler said.
The building, which is owned by the city, will also have amenities for residents, including two pickleball courts.
“This area of Rio Rancho has historically been underserved in terms of quality-of-life resources such as community centers and libraries,” Rio Rancho spokeswoman Annemarie Garcia said. “The last time the city added a new amenity, such as a library or community/rec center, was 14 years ago.”
Design plans are complete and bids will be awarded sometime in the summer.
Construction will start after that, she said.
