Although I fully agree with you (on the editorial “DOH’s ridiculous cancelation,” Jan. 31 Observer) that the state’s on-again-off-again teacher vaccination was bush league, I cannot agree that it should have gone forward.
Sandoval County has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the state, 5.1 percent. Those 1,800 doses should have gone into the arms of the many waiting 90-year-olds, who still haven’t heard from the Department of Health, or as second doses for the group-housed ones who finally got their first dose this week (week of Jan. 24).
Until everyone over 65 who wants the vaccine has gotten it, New Mexico should go down the list strictly by age. The mortality statistics show that this is the only rational and moral plan.
