New Mexico United and New Mexico 811 announced the seventh round of additions to the U-23 roster in the team’s history.
Former Cleveland High soccer standouts Gabe and Nick Legendre –brothers and teammates on the Storm’s 2018 state championship team — were among the trio of additions, as the roster reached 21 for the inaugural season, with more announcements yet to come.
“Gabe, Nick and Aaron (Cisneros) will provide exciting attacking power to our team, and have proven their talent at high school, club and collegiate levels,” said United U-23 head coach Luke Sanford. “These three players will make an immediate impact as we get the ball rolling in our inaugural season.”
Gabe Legendre was named the Gatorade New Mexico Boys Soccer Player of the Year in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, recording 30 goals and 13 assists in his senior season and leading the Storm to a Class 5A state semifinal appearance.
He was a three-time All-State first-team selection, and upon graduating, has been attending Fort Lewis College, where he scored eight goals and assisted on four more. He made an appearance for New Mexico United in a 2019 friendly against Cardiff City FC, making him the youngest player in United history. He was a standout for the United Academy in 2021.
Nick Legendre helped lead his team to a few state tournaments. After graduation, he joined the Colorado Rapids MLS Next Pro club. He has been a standout player at all levels and will be playing soccer this fall at the University of Notre Dame — one of the top collegiate programs in the nation.
