Baca will give a lecture called “Las Mercedes Que No Mueren: Land Grant History in New Mexico,” a general overview of land grant history in New Mexico, including how land grants were essential to the settlement of the region by Spain and Mexico and how land grant recipients had a complex relationship with the region’s indigenous nations.

Correa-Skartwed’s presentations will be about her family’s journey to the Las Huertas Valley and how their footsteps imprinted on her life.
