If you didn’t get out to enjoy all the diamond action in Rio Rancho last week – namely, baseball and softball tournaments at Rio Rancho High School, plus a softball tournament at Cleveland High – there are more opportunities to see the quartet of great varsity diamond teams this week.

For Storm fans, you can take a drive up US 550 to Farmington to see the Storm baseball team play the FHS Scorpions Tuesday at 4 p.m., or wait until Friday and make the short drive down the hill to Cibola High, where the Storm meet the Cougars in a District 1-5A opener.

Storm senior Austin Barela deals Thursday in his team’s win over Artesia.

The Storm softball team also heads to Cibola to meet the Lady Cougars Friday at 4.

For Rams fans, the state’s No. 1 baseball team (according to MaxPreps), which rallied to beat the Storm 4-3 in nine innings Saturday in the Sal Puentes/Rio Rancho Tournament’s championship game, you’ve got two home games this week: Atrisco Heritage Academy is here Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest – the teams’ District 1-5A opener – and Sandia visits Wednesday for a 4 p.m. ballgame (postponed because of snow from March 8).

The Rams softball team, coming off a third-place finish at its own Kristin Griego tournament over the weekend, is home to meet Atrisco Heritage Academy at the Eagle Ridge softball complex Tuesday at 4.
